Stories about my journey as a caregiver for my mother, who endures her battle with dementia with love and patience, while the music brings the memories to life. All names are fictitious for the protection of those involved.

In this blog I share short stories from the daily life of my mother and me in dementia care.
De woensdagmiddag bingo

Every Wednesday afternoon there is bingo at mom's care, and I try to be there every week. This time mom called me enthusiastically to tell me that there is bingo and asked if I wanted to join in. So sweet!

Bingo, Music and Dementia Care: Moments that Touch

I was sitting at the bingo table with mom, and Mrs. Jansen was there too. It was very cozy. We all won a prize, and we chose a piece of chocolate cake.

During bingo break I told Mom I was practicing the Stars on 45 Andrew Sisters Medley. I started humming a few parts because I didn't know the words yet and was practicing them, I said.

Then Mrs. Jansen said enthusiastically: "You mean studying!" "Yes," I said, and there was a smile on her face. She started telling a wonderful story about how she used to write down all the texts in a book. That explained why she knew the text better than I did! So nice! But, pay attention, because bingo is starting again..
